A background check at the point of hire tells you who someone was on the day they joined. It says nothing about who they become eighteen months later.

The case for continuous screening

Insider risk doesn’t always show up as a resume red flag, it shows up as a new court record, a lapsed credential, or a side business that creates a conflict of interest. Periodic re-verification for employees in sensitive roles (finance, IT admin, client-facing) catches these changes before they become incidents.

Where to start

You don’t need to re-run every check on every employee every quarter. Start with roles that have access to money, data, or vulnerable populations, and set a re-verification cadence, annually is common, that matches the actual risk of the role.
